Fergie on Top of the Charts

Fergie, the singer from Black Eyed Peas, just got her second number one single:

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie earned her second No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart Thursday with "Glamorous," a tune featuring rapper Ludacris.

Thanks to 166,000 digital downloads, the track jumped seven places to end the two-week reign of New York rapper Mims' "This Is Why I'm Hot," which slipped to No. 2.

In its nine week history on the Hot 100, "Glamorous" has fallen in and out of the top-10 due to its availability online. Fergie's first single, last year's "London Bridge," was her first No. 1 on the chart.

Akon's "Don't Matter" slipped one to No. 3; the R&B singer is also the featured artist on Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape," as it similarly fell one to No. 4.

Patrick Stump can be heard on the No. 5 and 6 tracks, as the featured artist on Gym Class Heroes' "Cupid's Chokehold" (up two to No. 5) and in his own band Fall Out Boy, whose "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" held at No. 6 for a second week. Rock band Daughtry's "It's Not Over" re-entered the top-10, rising four to No. 7.

As for the others, who are they? Or is that a sign that I'm getting old?

Genesis Returns

Arrrgh! Genesis is back:

The rock band Genesis will tour for the first time in 15 years this summer, but without former front man Peter Gabriel, the group said on Wednesday.

The European and North American tour will feature vocalist and drummer Phil Collins, keyboard player Tony Banks and guitarist Mike Rutherford, reviving the lineup that reached its peak success in the 1980s.

Gabriel, a vocalist and flutist who helped found the British in 1966, will not participate, though Collins left open the possibility that Gabriel might participate in future projects.

"It's not like it's a party that we're holding that Peter didn't come to," Collins told a news conference, declining to explain further.

Genesis will tour Europe this summer, including a free concert at the Circus Maximus in Rome, and the band might participate on July 7 in former U.S. Vice President Al Gore's "Live Earth" event, which is occurring in cities around the world.

Absolutely, without a doubt, something to miss.

The Who and Live Music

The Who are stating that playing live is going to be the future of music:

Call them old fashioned, but the founding members of The Who don't think the Internet is the future of rock, are unhappy about radio's narrow musical focus, and convinced live music is what it is all about.

Announcing their 2007 European Tour on Thursday, including a headlining slot at Britain's Glastonbury festival in June, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend said playing big venues remained the best way of showcasing their music to the world.

"The Internet promises a lot of things - some it delivers, some it doesn't," Townshend, 61, told a news conference, adding one thing it does offer is the ability to sell tickets.

"It is probably the most powerful informational, promotional tool today. It's a very effective, focused machine for promotion. I look forward to using it for live events, there's a big scope for live music and live events."

But Townshend said live music is what it is all about today, with the British rock band that dates back to the 1960s embarking on a 29-date tour starting on May 16 in Lisbon.

It might indeed be the future of music but it's also its past: recording is only just over a century old, after all.

Night at the Museum

These cinemas are on to a loser here:

Some of Britain's biggest cinema chains have pulled hit comedy "Night at the Museum" from their screens in protest against Hollywood studio Twentieth Century Fox's plans to rush out the DVD version.

The move is the latest in a tussle between film theatres and studios over the shrinking time gap between the cinema and DVD release, which theatres fear will discourage the public from paying at the box office.

According to specialist film publications, the UK decision follows a similar standoff last week in Germany, where leading cinema chains forced Fox into concessions over the DVD release of "Eragon" by pulling other movies made by the studio, including "Museum," whose box office receipts plummeted as a result.

"As of today (Friday) we are no longer going to be showing the film on our screens," said a spokeswoman for Odeon, Britain's largest cinema chain with more than 840 screens.

The DVD market is worth vastly more to the studios that the cinema releases are. Offered a choice they'll go for the DVD's and bugger Odeon.

Lindsay Lohan Enters Rehab Center

Quite the news today, the actress Lindsey Lohan has checked into a rehabilitation center. But, no, no one knows which one. Maybe she flew to England to go to The Priory?

Actress Lindsay Lohan has entered a residential treatment center, her publicist said on Wednesday, but would not disclose the reason.

"I have made a proactive decision to take care of my personal health," the 20-year-old star of "Mean Girls" and "Freaky Friday" said in a statement. "I appreciate your well wishes and ask that you please respect my privacy at this time."

Lohan's spokeswoman declined to say what Lohan was being treated for or where the center was located. The actress said in December she had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for about a year.

Us Weekly magazine reported on its Web site that Lohan had been admitted to the exclusive Wonderland Center in West Hollywood and was seen arriving in an SUV followed by two other cars.

Lindsay Lohan And Alcoholics Anonymous

Reports have copme out that Lindsay Lohan has been going to Alcoholics Anonymous for a year:

Actress Lindsay Lohan, a mainstay on Hollywood's party circuit, has been going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for a year and has not had a drink in a week, People magazine said on Tuesday.

Lohan's attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings was revealed earlier this month by her mother and her publicist but the actress, who at 20 is under the legal drinking age of 21, had said little on the subject herself.

"I've been going to AA for a year, by the way," Lohan was quoted as telling People at a Hollywood party Monday night. Asked why she did not say so before, she replied: "Well, it's no one's business. That's why it's anonymous."

That's not really what you're supposed to do though Lindsay, you're supposed to not drink at all when you go to Alcoholics Anonymous. Tut, tut.

Lettuce Ladies

PETA has a group called the Lettuce Ladies who demonstrate against the eating of animals. Perhaps they might have bitten off more than they can chew when they started demonstrating in Kazakhstan:

Two British animal rights campaigners clad in nothing more than bikinis made of lettuce leaves braved freezing temperatures on Tuesday to urge the people of Kazakhstan to stop eating horses and go vegetarian.

As the putative homeland of fictional TV reporter Borat, the vast and formerly nomadic Central Asian state has risen to prominence in recent months, leading People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to ask them to stop eating meat.

"Whereas Borat is ridiculing the country, we're trying to come here with a positive message," Yvonne Taylor, 35, told Reuters. "We're saying that going vegetarian is the best thing people can do for their health and to stop animals suffering."

Kazakhstan's national cuisine is almost entirely meat-based. Horse sausage and boiled sheep's head are delicacies while lamb and offal are part of the staple diet.

To give you an example of quite how awful the food is there even the Russians think it is foul.

Indian Condoms

A very funny little story from Reuters:

Condoms designed to meet international size specifications are too big for many Indian men as their penises fall short of what manufacturers had anticipated, an Indian study has found.

The Indian Council of Medical Research, a leading state-run center, said its initial findings from a two-year study showed 60 percent of men in the financial capital Mumbai had penises about 2.4 cm (one inch) shorter than those condoms catered for.

For a further 30 percent, the difference was at least 5 cm (two inches). A poor fit meant the prophylactics often didn't do the job they were bought for, and led to some tearing or slipping off during use.

That's mildly funny as it is of course but still understandable. Indian men tend to be shorter and thinner than those of many other countries as well, meaning that if they are in proportion it all makes sense.

However, Dr. Puri also came out with this piece of comedic gold:

"One of the reasons for a failure of up to 20 percent (of condoms) is the association of the size of the condom to the erect penis," the council's Dr. Chander Puri told Reuters, adding another reason was couples often put them on in a hurry.

Seriously, no shit Sherlock!

Lindsay Lohan is an American actress born in 1986 in New York City.

She started her career in one of the more excreble spins offs of the absurd daytime soap, Another World (her break coming in Another World: Bay City).

Despite this start in the slums of the entertainment world she has managed to move up to a movie career, appearing in Mean Girls (2004) and the upcoming Herbie: Fully Loaded. That rather sounds like a movie made with John Holmes, a VW Beetle and a bevy of girls but I think we can safely assume that this is not the case. Expecially as he has been dead for decades.
